BOREALI CCA 43 Adro. umbraticola - TRANSVAAL
Flowers: Corolla tube cylindrical, slightly grooved, glaucous pink or red; Anthers protrude beyond the end of the flower tube; Trichomes, or hair-like papillae, are usually present in the throat of the flower.
Includes: Form: Locality
schuldtianus: Small, slow-growing and with a tuberous rootstock. Variable leaf-size and markings, many forms having crinkled edges to the attractive leaves. Closely related to A. trigynus. Central Namibia, and southwards to north of the Orange River. Usually in south-facing rock crevices (the shady side).

schuldt. ssp. juttae: Reputedly longer branched than the type. Little known in cultivation and needing further investigation in the field. Karasberg Mountains in Southern Namibia.

trigynus (subcompressus): Widespread and variable. Leaves usually well-marked and with a thin horny margin all around the leaf edges. Short stems above branching, tuberous roots. In sheltered rock crevices of the Northern Cape, from near Pofadder and into the Free State.

trig. ssp. rupicola: Possible, more vigorous, new subspecies. Upper Karoo.

umbraticola (saxicola): Tuberous rootstock, with or without stems. Leaves usually plain, sometimes glaucous, rarely spotted. Only species from the Transvaal.

umb. ssp. ramosus: Smaller than the type, with plain, unmarked leaves on taller, tuberous stems Growing in rocky crevices in the Transvaal.
