Haworthia Hybrids and Cultivars from the Cocozza CollectionAlthough the far greater part of the Cocozza Collection is made up of species haworthia, mostly grown from seed, an interesting, nay, downright fascinating, section has been produced from distinct, selected clones. In the infancy of the Haworthia Society there was little material available of any kind. Nowadays, owing to the efforts of members and the exchange of seed, there is a far wider range of haworthia to be had. This provides us with far more choices when selecting the parent plants most likely to contain the elements we might wish to retain. Careful selection of suitable parent plants with the features you wish to use or emphasize can increase the likelihood of producing attractive clones. Selection in order to provide the most promising parent plants is a good policy for anyone as sufficient space to grow-on the resulting offspring is always at a premium. Our 25feet by 10.5feet Haworthia House is large enough to provide me with scope but small enough to concentrate the mind. This need for selection is also a perfect opportunity to spend interminable hours browsing and musing, pottering and perusing. In order to improve on the accuracy of present day records, each plant clone within the Cocozza Collection is given its individual CC number and each batch of seed produced carries its own particular CCO (Cocozza Collection Offspring) reference number, details of history, parentage etc being recorded. In Gallery 1 - are selected clones we have produced from crosses within a single species (e.g. H. bayeri x bayeri). Some of these could also be referred to as species hybrids when from crosses between two, distinct localities. In Gallery 2 - are clones or groups we have produced from hybrid crosses between various species or pre-existing hybrids. These are also known as cultivars (or cultivar groups). In Gallery 3a 3b 3c - are Japanese hybrids we hold in the Cocozza Collection. In Gallery 4 - are hybrids produced elsewhere in the UK and held in the Cocozza Collection. In Gallery 5 - are other modern hybrids we hold in the Cocozza Collection. In Gallery 6 - are old hybrids from various sources which are held in the Cocozza Collection.
